God Is Pro-Choice (but don't get it twisted!)

Life seems to continually set before us the interaction between opposites - polar opposites that are inextricably linked to one another. You know them: joy and sorrow; pleasure and pain; beginnings and endings; good and evil; heaven and hell; God and Satan; life and death....and so on.

Within this interplay, we cannot acknowledge the existence of one side without acknowledging the other – without knowing the taste of bitter, can we truly understand sweet? Real appreciation for God's favor requires genuine familiarity with its absence. Opposites being placed before us is what sets the stage for choices being made.

The good news for the Christian is that God is pro-choice! In the course of a lifetime, day-in and day-out, God gives us a long series of choices - He demonstrates to us daily that He is pro-choice. He allows us to choose a mate, to choose what we eat, to choose a profession, to choose where we want to live – He even allows us to choose whether or not we’ll follow Him. In fact, it was Moses’ faithful Lieutenant, Joshua, who said “choose you this day whom ye will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)

Best of all – just as He did so long ago in scripture – it is the Lord’s words that speak clearly even now when He says: "Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!" (Deuteronomy 30:19) In setting out choices for all of US, God even gives us the answer to the question - He says "Choose life"!
