God IS God – The IS-ness of God

There has never been a time when the sovereignty of God has NOT been questioned. In fact, even before time began, God's supremacy was challenged: “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer… For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God….I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.” (Isaiah 14:12-14). And all indications would suggest that, in 2015, the irreverence of mankind is moving in a similar direction, more prevalent now than at most other times in history – we choose our desires over God's design, our feelings over God's favor, our loves over God’s Lordship, our plans over God's purpose....

Be advised, however, that the rumors of God's demise are greatly exaggerated – God's “IS-ness” is wholly intact! In Exodus 3, God is preparing Moses to go to Pharaoh and free His people. Like most of us probably would, Moses raises objections, hurdles and questions, including “Who do I say sent me?”.But God simultaneously shut that down and established the fullness of Who He is when He answered "I AM that I AM" – “hayah” in the Hebrew – primarily meaning “to be” or “to exist”. With this understanding of what God calls Himself, the implication is that His IS-ness doesn’t stop, that there is never a time when He is not God! Now THAT is really good news – we DO have that blessed assurance to lean on when life gets crazy! Try as some might to avoid it, God still IS…and by all indications, He always will be! After all, He’s been right about it ever since that day He told Moses…

I am the Lord, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed
